The 1st and 2nd night/class is mostly indoors with instructor and video presentations, but some time will be spent outdoors handling shotguns, using inert ammunition and other hands on activities. The 3rd night/class will start indoors with the written test, followed by outdoor activities involving live fire with .22 rifles and shotguns.
During the class, students will receive a presentation on SD hunting laws, be given a written test that covers what they learned in class and from the Conservation Officer presentation and get to shoot and participate in other hands-on outdoor learning activities.
Each student should be dressed for outdoors; conditions can be cold and rainy, and there may be mosquitoes. Shotguns, and ammunition will be provided. NO FIREARMS OR AMMUNITION ARE TO BE BROUGHT TO THE RANGE. Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay and observe.
IMPORTANT:
Class location is at the Terry O'Keefe Hunter Education Center at the Brown County Rifle Range.
Directions: 5.5 miles south of the intersection of U.S. Highway 12 and Highway 281.
